Series 1 – Natasha Kaplinsky
TV presenter and newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky won the first ever series of Strictly, along with partner Brendan Cole. The couple were saved by the judges in week three before going on to win the series.
Series 2 – Jill Halfpenny
Actress Jill Halfpenny won series two, alongside partner Darren Bennett. The couple won the second series after receiving the full 40 marks from the judges in the final.
Series 3 – Darren Gough
In 2005, former England cricketer Darren Gough became the first male celebrity to win Strictly. Gough, along with Lilia Kopylova, never once finished at the top of the leaderboard in the 12-weeks prior to the final, but they still managed to win the competition.
Series 4 – Mark Ramprakash
Strictly was won by a cricketer for the second year in a row when Mark Ramprakash and partner Karen Hardy took the famous Glitterball in 2006.
Series 5 – Alesha Dixon
Back in 2007, Alesha Dixon was still known as beinga former singer in Mis-Teeq. Not only did she win Strictly, she went on to become a judge on the competition just a few years later!
Series 6 – Tom Chambers
Holby City actor Tom Chambers, rather controverisally, beat Rachel Stevens and Lisa Snowdon in the final of 2008. Tom, and partner Camilla Dallerup, were placed bottom of the leaderboard in the semi-final but a tie between the other two couples meant that there was no way for him to be saved from the dance-off, leaving the BBC to put all three couples through to the final as they didn’t want the public to be voting for something that could not be won or lost. In the final, Chambers and Dallerup received the lowest scores from the judges but still won thanks to the public vote.
Series 7 – Chris Hollins
BBC Breakfast’s Chris Hollins and partner Ola Jordan were crowned as the 2009 winners.
Series 8 – Kara Tointon
Not only did Eastenders actress Kara Tointon and partner partner Artem Chigvintsev win the 2010 show, they also became a couple. However, they split up in 2014.
Series 9 – Harry Judd
McFly drummer Harry Judd and partner Aliona Vilani defeated Chelsee Healey and Jason Donovan in an excellent final to win series 9.
Series 10 – Louis Smith
Olympic gymnast Louis Smith put his natural abilities in full use in 2012 as he and partner Flavia Cacace won series 10.
Series 11 – Abbey Clancy
Abbey Clancy and Aljaz Skorjane were often the strongest couple in the build-up to the 2013 final so it was no surprise to see them lift the Glitterball.
Series 12 – Caroline Flack
Caroline Flack and Pasha Kovalev put in one of the all-time Strictly final performances with an unbelievably good Charleston. The pair got full marks in all three of their dances in the final as they deservedly won series 12.
Series 13 – Jay McGuiness
Jay McGuiness from boyband The Wanted, won series 13 alongside professional Aliona Vilani. The duo’s Pulp Fiction-inspired jive from movie week has been watched over 3.5m million times on YouTube!
Series 14 – Ore Oduba
BBC presenter Ore Oduba and partner Joanne Clifton scored 39, 40 and 40 for their three dances in the final of series 14.
Series 15 - Joe McFadden
Holby City actor Joe McFadden and partner Katya Jones won a very competitive final in 2017, beating Alexandra Burke, Debbie McGee and Gemma Atkinson and their respective partners.
Series 16 – Stacey Dooley
TV presenter and journalist Stacey Dooley and her partner Kevin Clifton upset the odds by defeating favourite Joe Sugg to win last year’s series of Strictly.
